Increased stock (<145mpg) fuel economy up to 180 mpg while maintaining stock engine setup. Accomplished by eliminating nearly 8 lbs of wheel weight by converting to 24" mt. bike rims and tires. Gearing was (stock) 11th x smaller 40th rear. An additional benefit was increased cruise speeds on the flat from 24.5 MPH to 28 MPH. Naturally, by gearing higher (12th) cruising speeds on the flats increased to 30+ MPH but at a loss of fuel economy. Other: required modifying trailing arm and center stand, used stock (180mm) spokes but in a single-cross pattern and enlarged rim holes for larger nipples.
