Baby Derbi Hobbit

Yet another wayward project comes to Toledo, this time from Chicago, and my dear friend Tony Cruz. I was given this frame when Tony was moving shops, I dont know who built it. However it has an extended subframe mount, Puch racer boi seat from Treats, some Italian tank, Hobbit forks. I took over from there. The engine: Ive seen plenty of Hobbits rocking the 47mm Derbi Airsal, so why not do something different? I used the 12pin Stuffed Hobbit crank from Treats, this way I could run any Derbi kit I wanted. At first I chose the 40mm 50cc Airsal, now this is a fine kit. I am to fat for 50 kits, it did 38 totally un-ported, probably has more in it. I'll never know because I gave it to Noah for an actual Derbi. In its place is the 60cc Berakit, which is basically the 44mm Airsal with a better single ring piston. Somewhere in between the insane porting of the 47mm kit and the 40mm kit, this thing is just fun. As for the rest of the motor, Treats Dio reed spacer with stage 6 reeds, 17.5mm Polini CP, HPI timed at 2.2mm btdc, TjT variator with 10g weight, HJC contra with blue spring, Derbi head (duuuhhh), PA50-2 bell with springs removed & one-way bearing, Treats pull start, all LED lights, reinforced sub-frame. Now for the pipe, ahhhh the pipe! Did you know that Peugeot pipes fit on these bad boi kits? Did you also know that like none of them work well? I tried a Doppler Street Cup, DOS Ninja G2 replica, some other pipe? And ultimately the Polini Utah pipe worked really well. I found this funny because its kinda to small for most 103 kits, but it genuinely worked well. I was able to get the bike to a solid 47mph with it. And I was happy, but then....Ryan Crank came along, and god damn those pipes are just sexy! So ya I replaced the pipe with a cranks pipe and hit 50 This bike is super fun, it cools amazing, and runs smooth. While it doesnt hit hard like its 47mm counterpart, it just revs and doesnt stop pulling, it has been described as "stupidly fun" by Andy Thompson.
